Canadian actress, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on November 2, 1917 as Therese Ann Rutherford. She received the Golden Boot Award in 1988 and two stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for her work in film and television. She married David May (1942-1953) and had a...Read more child. She then married producer, actor and writer William Dozier (1953-1991) and remained with him until his death. Her most important works include Gone with the Wind (1939), Pride and Prejudice (1940), and Orchestra Wives (1942). She was the daughter of former Metropolitan Opera singer John Rutherford and her mother was actress Lillian Mansfield. At the age of eight, she worked in theater and on radio and presented many plays for nine years before appearing for the first time on the cinema screen in the movie Waterfront Lady (1935). In 1948, she turned to television until 1972 when she returned to the cinema with the movie They Only Kill Their Masters (1972). She died on June 11, 2012 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA of heart disease.
