“Midnight in Paris” is the romantic comedy that awarded the extraordinary film-maker Woody Allen with the Writers Guild Award for original screen play for the 5th time in his career. This film has been receiving great critic reviews since it was premiered in Cannes in May 2011 and is his most praised film in the last two decades. It was for “Midnight in Paris” that returned Woody to the Hollywood interface by winning this award and getting him closer to winning his 3rd Oscar for the same category. His main two competitors for the same Oscar are the French film “The Artist” and the Iranian film “Separation” which is a more powerful competition than the Writers Guild films since they were all American films. The last time Woody received this award was in 1990 for “Crimes and Misdemeanors”. His other three awards were first in 1977 for “Annie Hall”, in 1985 for “Broadway Dannie Rose” and in 1987 for “Hannah and her Sisters”.On the other hand, director and script writer “Alexander Payne” won his second Writers Guild for Best Adopted Screenplay for “The Descendants”. His first was in 2004 for “Sideways” which also gave him an Oscar on the same category.
