Awad is released from prison amid fears that Khalifa will seek revenge on him for the murder of the latter's father, Salem. Rawash successfully regains ownership of the mill. Jamil seizes Medhat's land.

Rawash, Zeinhoum, and the mayor get together after they discover Jamil's real identity; Jamil, who has been buying everything in the hamlet to impose his control, is actually the son of Al-Sakka, whom they kicked out of the hamlet years ago. Awad wallows in guilt for killing Salem.

Mayor Khalifa gets a surprising visit from Jamil and his daughter, Sonia. Sa'fan tries to convince Awad to partner up with him on a mysterious project.

When Mayor Khalifa falls ill, his son Rashed gets assigned as the new mayor, but he gets in an accident with his daughter Ola, leaving Awad to save them. Rashed is officially installed as the new mayor.

Awad and Ola grow close. Na'sa suspects that Sonia and Mamdouh are having an affair. Hanem tries to help Awad overcome his depression.

Jamil continues to buy land to establish major projects. Awad confesses his love for Ola. When Rashed finds out about their romance, he decides to keep Ola away from Awad.

Jamil poaches the workers at Rawash's mill, incurring the latter's wrath. Jamil buys Rashed a gun and convinces him that Awad is going to try to kill him.

Rawash asks Khalifa for Ola's hand, but Khalifa refuses and kicks Rawash out. Ola and Khalifa go to an Islamic saint commemorating celebration (mawlid). Awad makes plans to meet Ola.

When Awad kidnaps Ola, she informs him that she knows that he killed Salem, and asks him to stay away from her. Awad and Sa'fan try to ingratiate themselves to Jamil.

The mayor accuses Awad of stealing his livestock to pressure him into agreeing to Awad's marriage to Ola. Zeinhoum tries to sell Hanem's land to Jamil.

Rabei' leaves Fatma and the mayor's house in order to stay out of trouble. Mamdouh divorces Na'sa as he prepares to marry Sonia. Rawash divorces Hanem.

Hanem sells her land to Jamil. Medhat and Rabei' suspect that someone has been poisoning the canal's water to kill the livestock. When Jamil discovers that Medhat is plotting to revolt against him, he prepares to face off against him.

On Jamil's orders, Qotta sets the Port Said harbor on fire to get rid of Abu Al-Rous. As Abu Al-Rous dies, Jamil plots to sabotage Rawash's bakery. Khalifa tries to convince Rashed not to resign his office as mayor.

When Zeinhoum's house is set on fire, he loses all his fortune, and his mind along with it. Jamil gathers Khalifa and Rawash to inform him of his plans to avenge what happened to his father.

As Hanem rejects Sa'fan's wedding proposal, Jamil shares that he plotted to make her fall for him to sabotage her marriage to Rawash. When Awad breaks into Jamil's house, the latter shoots him and Sonia, who is revealed not to be Jamil's daughter. Jamil is arrested after his corruption gets exposed.
