Sam, a filmmaker, comes across the unfinished 1939 film "Princess Marushka" and becomes enamored with the young actor Sylvain Marceau. Sam decides to film a documentary in an effort to unravel the mystery surrounding Sylvain's disappearance. While interviewing Lisa Morain, he discovers the details of their tragic love affair on the verge of World War II through her interview.
