Biography

A Syrian singer, born in 1922. In 1935 he learned to play the oud at the hands of the artist Sobhi Saeed. At first he performed the songs of Mohamed Abdel Wahab in the theaters of Damascus, then he worked on the Damascus Radio, and in 1942 he met the poet Omar Al-Halabi, who...Read more wrote him his songs. He collaborated with many songwriters. In 1952 he traveled to Egypt, and presented some of his songs on the Cairo Radio and Sawt El Arab station, then returned to Damascus, where he was appointed office manager of the Musicians' Syndicate, and supervised the musical and lyrical programs recorded for the Syrian Arab Radio. He starred in only one movie, Light and Darkness, in which he sang many songs. The number of his songs reached 500, he composed about 198 songs, including patriotic songs, religious songs, poems and folk songs. He died in 1969.
