A Lebanese poet and playwright, born in 1939 in Marjayoun. Mahfouz graduated from the Institute of Higher Studies in Paris. He joined the poetry magazine movement, then left poetry to write for the theatre. He taught at the Lebanese University. He worked in the press for thirty...Read more years. He started his first theatrical play Zinzalakht, followed by the plays Murder, The Dictator, and The Case of Freedom. He also has several collections of poetry, such as: Dead Things (1959), (Summer Herbs) (1961), and The First Death (1973). He also has several studies on Ibn Arabi, Ibn al-Rawandi, Abu Bakr al-Razi, and Jabir ibn Hayyan. Among his movies: Qassem's Village (1974).
