He was born in 1949 in the govern ate of Gharbeya Egypt. He graduated from medical school at Mansoura University in 1975. He worked in the suburbs for a while then moved to Cairo. During that time he was continuously writing. In 1970 during medical school he won his first award...Read more for his short story “The Song of the Empty Morgue” his story was published in many magazines. In 1988 he won the country’s encouraging award for his book “Who killed Mariam El Safi”. He also won the people’s culture award for his story “Saafan’s dead”. Later on in his life Kandil worked as chief editor for “Al Arabi Magazine” in Kuwait. During his time on the job Kandil was able to travel around and enhance his experiences further, which resulted in 2 novels, one of them “Kamar On Samarkand”, as for the other one it was a script and sadly he had lost it. Kandil also wrote some children’s books such as “Sinbad on Clove Island” and “A Jew in the Noaman Castle”.
