Woolverton became the first woman to write an animated feature for Disney in 1991 with her screenplay “Beauty and the Beast,” which was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. She also wrote the screenplay for the recent adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” (2010), making her the first and only woman with a sole writing credit on a movie that grossed a billion dollars. Woolverton has also written two novels, several theatrical productions and multiple television series. Her various writing credits include: “Dennis the Menace” (TV; 1986), “Star Wars: Ewoks” (TV; 1986), “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” (Film; 1993), “Aida” (Theatre; 2000), “Artic Tale” (Film; 2007), and “Maleficent” (2014).
