Mary Elizabeth Winstead is an American actress. She played John McClane's daughter in "Live Free or Die Hard" (2007) and "A Good Day to Die Hard" (2012) as well as a struggling alcoholic in the indie "Smashed." As a teen, Winstead was dedicated to her dream of becoming a ballerina, but when her height shot up and she realized how hard ballerina was on the body, she turned to acting. She made her Broadway debut with the successful "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," which she followed with a number of TV gigs. She scored a lead role in Disney's "Sky High" alongside Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston. The well-reviewed film opened up doors for Winstead, leading to roles in Tarantino's "Grindhouse," the Robert F. Kennedy biopic "Bobby" with an A-list ensemble cast, then the whimsical comic book adaptation "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" (2010). While many of her lower profile films have had critics praising Winstead's performance in spite of the film itself, "Smashed" has not only earned Winstead rave reviews, but the film itself has been embraced in the festival circuit, winning the Special Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Festival. "Smashed" is the story of a married couple who share a mutual love of alcohol. Their bond are tested when Winstead's character decides to get sober.
