Born in Salisbury, Maryland, USA, Hamilton has an identical twin sister, Leslie, who served as her double in her most famous role as Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1992). Before he acting career began, Linda Hamilton studied for two years at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, and was discouraged by her acting professor from pursuing the career of acting. She next moved to New York where she attended workshops given by Lee Strasberg and studied method acting, a system which requires actors to go beyond emotional memory and use a technique called “Substitution” to temporarily become the characters they are portraying. Hamilton’s acting career started in 1980 through her major role as Lisa Rogers in the soap opera, Secrets of Midland Heights (Dec 1980 – Jan 1981). In 1982 came her film debut in the thriller, TAG: the Assassination Game (1982). She had a lead role in the horror film, Children of the Corn (1984), which grossed US$ 14 million at the box office and the same year witnessed her huge success in The Terminator (1984). Hamilton received Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for her role in the fantasy-drama TV series, Beauty and the Beast (1987-1990). She also received two MTV Movie Awards for Best Female Performance for her role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which has grossed a smashing US$ 500 million at the box office. Hamilton was awarded a CableACE Award for best dramatic performance and nominated for another Golden Globe Award in 1996 for her performance in the film, A Mother’s Prayer (1995). In 1997, she co-starred with Pierce Brosnan in one of the biggest commercial hit films of the year, Dante’s Peak (1997), for which she also received a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for female performance. In addition to acting in films, TV series, and TV-films, Hamilton was a TV host in Saturday Night Live following the success of the Terminator series. She performed a voice-over for a sci-fi film, Terminator Salvation (2009) and will voice a character in the Xbox video game, Gears 5. In 2019 she will reprise her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate.
