Serbian actor and director born on November 24, 1954 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He directed eight films and two films for television. He won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and the Silver Bear in Berlin. His parents decided to send him abroad when he was 18 years old to study cinema at...Read more the Academy of Performing Arts' Film and TV School (FAMU). In 1981, he directed Do You Remember Dolly Bell? (1981), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. When Father Was Away on Business (1985) won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His third film, Gypsy Time, won a director's prize at Cannes in 1989. In 1993, his first American film, The Arizona Dream, won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.
