He studied business at the University of Miami. He did not want his father to know about his intentions to pursue a career in music and did not want to succeed because of his father's fame, so he took money from his nanny, recorded a demo tape, and promoted his songs as an unknown singer from Guatemala under the name Enrique Martinez. He dropped out of college and traveled to Toronto to record his debut album. He signed a contract with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope Records to release his English albums. In 2010, Iglesias left Interscope Records and signed with Republic Records to release albums in both Spanish and English. Enrique has sold more than 70 million copies between albums, singles, and musical productions, making him one of the most successful Spanish-language singers.
