However, he did not achieve commercial success during his lifetime, despite critical acclaim for his writing. Interest in Yates increased after his death, partly due to the article published in 1999 by writer Stewart O'Nan in the newspaper Boston Review, in addition to his autobiography that was told by writer Blake Bailey in 2003. The film Revolutionary Road which was based on his novel, also received a Golden Globe award in addition to an Oscar nomination. Yates died in Birmingham, Alabama, in the United States.
