A British actress, born in London, England, the United Kingdom, as Mona Barlee Smith. Mona was married twice and did not have children. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for her film work. She was active on stage in Australia, before establishing her career in the United States of America in Broadway plays and Hollywood movies. She was a former ballet dancer and was educated in Australia. She is the daughter of comedian Phil Smith and the variety artist Jessie Pauly. She moved to Australia in 1913 and has been active on stage since 1922 in plays. She appeared in her first film, His Royal Highness (1932), with the Australian comedian George Wallace. The following year, she immigrated to New York and signed a contract with Fox. However, because she lacked glamorous beauty, she was limited to secondary roles during her cinematic career. She also participated in Western films. Mona continued her work until the early fifties, and when films decreased, she backed away from the artistic scene, and maintained her residence in Los Angeles, until she died in 1964 at the age of 54 years. She died in Los Angeles, California, United States of America on June 27, 1964.
