Merian C. Cooper was an American writer, director, and producer, born on October 24, 1893, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was an American aviator and adventurer. Merian also served in the United States Air Force and Polish Air Force as an officer. He is best known for the movie King Kong (1933). Cooper was awarded an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1952. He died on April 21, 1973, in San Diego, California.
