Kanye West is an African-American hip hop recording artist, producer, film director and fashion designer. He was born on June 8, 1977, in Chicago, where he grew up. West veered from a his well known style of heavy soul and R&B sampling paired with heavy instrumentation and drums for a more minimalist, electronic vocal album with "808's & Heartbreak" in 2008, which earned him some harsh reviews. His next album ranked among the top albums of the year (some say of all time) and garnered all around critical acclaim: "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" in 2010. Kanye West and reality television star turned fashion icon Kim Kardashian welcomed their first child in 2013, to much media and tabloid hype. West is one of the most awarded artists in pop music.
