Biography
An Iraqi singer, born in 1921 in Baghdad. He was an orphan, and his mother was a blind, poor woman. He joined Al-Zabaniyya troupe, with which he performed his first theatrical work in 1942, where he sang during the performance a song composed by him, "Hala, Hala". In 1948, he joined the Muwashahat Ensemble. He was famous for his strong voice and mastery of mawwal. Al Ghazali published a series of articles in Nadim magazine in 1952 under the title "The Most Famous Arab Singers", which won the admiration of readers. At the beginning of the fifties, he rose to fame, and traveled to several countries to perform in concerts. He collaborated with famous poets such as Elia Abu Madi and Ahmed Shawqi. He married the Iraqi singer Salima Mourad, despite the age difference between them, and in 1958 they performed a great concert which led to them being invited to sing in London, Paris and Beirut. He died on October 23, 1963.
