British actress, born on September 19, 1927, in Leicestershire, England. Her father, was a pilot in the Royal Air Force, and she lived her childhood in India. In 1952, she entered the Academy of Dramatic Arts. She made her debut in 1948 in Kiss and Tell, then moved to work in the famous Broadway theater in London. In the late fifties, she moved to New York to work in American cinema and in 1962 returned to Britain again to work with the famous director and actor Laurence Olivier, where she acted with him in the play Hamlet. She won the 1978 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The Holocaust, and won the 1966 Tony Award for Best Outstanding Actress in a Play for her role in The Lion in Winter.
