Holden served in the US Army during World War II, and after returning from the war, he participated in two films of one of the most notable films in his career; Sunset Blvd. and Born Yesterday (1950) followed by Stalag 17 (1953), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He then spent most of his time running his own safari club, splitting his time between Africa and Switzerland. Later on, he co-starred in the film Network (1976), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for the third time. William Holden died on November 16, 1981, at the age of 63.
