Canadian writer and actor, born in Montreal, Canada. He began working in the early 1930s as a journalist for the left-wing Canadian newspaper The Daily Clarion. He enlisted in Mackenzie Babineaux's battalion in 1937 to combat fascism during the Spanish Civil War. His writing credits include Love Streams (1984), Lies My Father Told Me (1975), Oh! What a Lovely War (1969) and It Rained All Night the Day I Left (1980). He died on June 29, 1995, in Toronto, Canada
