Vera admits that she was shocked by what she experienced during the war. After the war, Vera returned to Oxford to complete her studies, and in 1923, she published her first novel, The Dark Tide. In 1925, she married George Catlin, the political scientist, philosopher, and thinker, and they had one son. In 1933, she published her best-selling autobiography, Testament of Youth, which was adapted into a film of the same name.
