He got an Oscar nomination for two films: Picnic (1956) and Murder (1959). During the seventies, his star began to fade due to his suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He was loved by injured American soldiers injured in the Vietnam War. He died on May 18, 1981, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA from Alzheimer's disease. His most important works include Bus Stop (1956), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), and Fantastic Voyage (1966).
