French actress, born as Annie Suzanne Girardot in the French capital, Paris on October 25, 1931. She won the Sant Jordi Prize in 1962 for Rocco and His Brothers (1960), the New Cinema Award in 1965 for Three Rooms in Manhattan (1965), and the Cesar Award in 2002 for The Piano...Read more Teacher (2001). She married Renato Salvatori (1962-1988), they had a child, and she remained with him until his death. She is known for The Piano Teacher (2001), Rocco and His Brothers (1960), and Caché (Hidden) (2005). She died on February 28, 2011, in Paris of Alzheimer's disease. She joined the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris and graduated in 1954. She then joined the Comédie-Française. A year later, she made her first film appearance while still acting on stage and attracted the attention of the audience and critics. She became the highest-paid star in France. Her work ranged between comedy and drama, and in the eighties, she played the roles of mothers and kept working until her retirement.
