She studied languages ​​and earned a Ph.D. in Latin at Westfield College, London. She married Stephen Hawking, the famous British physicist in 1965, after she met him during a party through mutual friends, before he contracted ALS, which leads to a complete paralysis. They had three children: Robert in 1967, Lucy in 1970 and Tim in 1979. They separated in 1990 and divorced in 1995. She aided her husband for years for his health problems which continued to deteriorate until he reached the inability to move and helped him complete his work during those circumstances. Five years later, she married Jonathan Jones, a musician who was a family friend. In 1999, she wrote her autobiography, "Music that Moves the Stars: Life with Stephen." After Stephen Hawking separated from his second wife Ellen, he began a business relationship with Jane. In 2008, her autobiography was released in a much different version titled "Travel to Infinity: My Life with Stephen". Her character was introduced to the screen once through Lisa Dillon in Hawking (TV Movie 2004) produced by BBC and in The Theory of Everything (2014).
