A British actor, born on February 9, 1891 in Richmond, Surrey, England, UK, as Ronald Charles Colman. He was educated at a boarding school in Littlehampton. Upon his recovery, he tried to enter the consular service, but a chance encounter got him a small role in a London play. In 1920, he set out for New York in hopes of finding greater fortune there, and he appeared on Broadway besides his appearances in films. He became a vastly popular star of silent films. The coming of sound made his extraordinarily beautiful speaking voice even more important to the film industry. In the 50s, he participated in radio programmes, TV series, and shows. He is known for Random Harvest (1942) and Bulldog Drummond (1929). He was married to Thelma Raye before Benita Hume, with whom he had a daughter. Among his several awards and nominations, he won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for A Double Life in 1948, and received two stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960. He died on May 19, 1958 from acute lung disease in Santa Barbara, California, USA.
