In...Read more 1935, she left Germany for Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to escape Nazism. There, she met Hans Reyersbach. He was a family friend, and they married in the same year. They moved to Paris, France, in 1936. While they were in Paris, Hans’ drawings caught the attention of a French publisher. He commissioned the couple to write and illustrate stories for children, and they became famous for the "Curious George" series of children's picture books. They then moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, and after the death of her husband, Rey continued writing. In 1979, she became a professor of creative writing at Brandeis University in Massachusetts. In 1980, she collaborated with director Alan Shalleck on a series of short films in which her main character from the "Curious George" books appeared, in addition to a number of other works. Her credits include Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle (2015) and Curious George: Cape Ahoy (2021).
