Born in Melbourne, Australia, Benedict Hardie graduated from the Victorian College of Arts in 2007 and became a writer, actor and theater maker.

He was the director and writer of the performance, Delectable Shelter in 2013. His acting credits for theater include Life Without Me (2010) with MTC (Melbourne Theater Company); Julius Caesar (2011) at Bell Shakespeare Theater; Crime and Punishment (2011) at Stork Theater. For television, Hardie was the co-writer of Staying (2008) which is a short film about people dealing with life after the death of loved ones in an honest and funny way. He was also the co-writer of the TV series, The Nurses (2010). His first film debut was in 2013 in the telemovie, The Outlaw Michael Howe (2013). Hardie also contributed to the horror film: Observance (2015); the drama film: Strangerland (2015); the history film: Hacksaw Ridge (2016); the romantic film: The Light Between Oceans (2016); the action film: Nekrotronic (2018); the black comedy film: Judy and Punch (2019).
