A Romanian-American director and screenwriter, born on February 26, 1900 in Craiova, Dolj, Romania. He left home at the age of 12, and ended up in Paris. After returning to...Read more Paris, he embarked on a more serious study of the arts, and then returned to Romania. Thereafter he moved to New York, then to California, where he initially worked as a portraitist. He took an interest in filmmaking, whereupon he wrote and directed an experimental feature film called Three and a Day. After that, he was hired by Paramount Pictures. He died on July 18, 1993 in Marbella, Andalusia, Spain.
