Betty Field was an American actress, born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 8, 1916. She won the NBR Award for Best Actress. She married writer Elmer Rice (1942-1956) and had 3 children. She is better known for Of Mice and Men (1939), Bus Stop (1956), and Birdman of Alcatraz (1962). Betty Field lived with her mother after her separation from her father, and she learned Spanish from her mother. She joined the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked in several touring theaters. She soon stood on Broadway theaters, performing secondary roles in comedies.
