He was famous on television in the early fifties as the old guard in the series Valley of Death, and in films, he often played the roles of officers and lawyers. He began his artistic career with theatrical work at the Minneapolis Theater in 1916 and participated in radio work until he presented his famous series Little Orphan Annie (from 1931 to 1936) and his first movie, Roman Scandals (1933). He played many supporting roles and participated in television in the early fifties; his most famous role was the role of Old Ranger in the series Death Valley Days (1952-1964).
