An American actor who was born in the Bronx, New York, USA on May 30, 1911 and died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA on May 21, 1998. He had 8 wives and 6 children. His most important works include Battleground (1949), Singin' in the Rain (1952), and Cat-Women of...Read more the Moon (1953). He took part in musical and comedic roles, working with superstars such as Clark Gable, Esther Williams, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra, and Jane Kelly. He was born in the Bronx and attended Xatier High School in New York City and St. Francis Military Academy, where he began acting. He moved to California to attend Los Angeles City College. He worked as a nightclub singer, a copy boy for the New York Times, assistant stockbroker on Wall Street, postal clerk, waiter, salesman, professional football player, and a professional actor in theatre, film, and television. He served in the US Navy during World War II at the South Pacific front, and was wounded and lost all his teeth in an explosion on board the aircraft carrier he was working on during the battles. After the war, he continued his career, where he presented many films, most notably the crime movie Fall Guy (1947) and Mighty Joe Young (1949). He presented many series and television programs, most notably The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (1955- 1961), where he participated in 68 episodes. His last television appearance was in 1982, and he retired in Woodland Hills with the last of his eight wives and died in 1998 at the age of 87.
