American actor born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 22 July 1907 to actor Taylor Holmes and Canadian actress Edna Phillips. He made his first appearance at the Metropolitan Opera in 1927. He made his film debut on Varsity (1928). His most notable works include An American Tragedy...Read more (1931), Night Court (1932), Men Must Fight (1933), and Great Expectations (1934). His career was tragically cut short when he was recruited in the air forces in WWII and met his demise in a plane crash in Ontario, Ottawa, Canada on 12 August 1942 at only 35 years old.
