A German-American actor born in Hamburg, Germany, as Siegfried Carl Alban Ruman. He married twice and had a child. His credits include Ninotchka (1939), Stalag 17 (1953), A Night at the Opera (1935), and To Be or Not to Be (1942). He performed tremendous comedic performances,...Read more especially the roles of pomp, arrogance, and vulgar bureaucracy. He studied electrical engineering at university before turning to acting. He served with the German forces in World War I before coming to the United States in 1924. He appeared regularly in high-quality theatrical productions in Broadway theaters. He entered the world of cinema with a minor role in the movie Lucky Boy (1929). His German accent was also a regular in World War II spy films such as Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939) and The Hitler Gang (1944). He presented more than 100 cinematic roles in addition to many television appearances. His last film was Way...Way Out (1966). He died in Julian, California, USA, on February 14, 1967, as a result of a heart attack
