He made his film debut in Boy Slaves (1939), and his last work was The Rear Guard (1976), then he retired. Among his most important works: Vera Cruz (1954), Illegal (1955), Coogan's Bluff (1968), and Kiss Me Deadly (1955). He died in Los Angeles, California, on July 11, 1991 of a heart attack.
