He immigrated to the United States in 1914, crossing the border between Canada and Vermont, and worked in the theater. He made his first cinematic appearance in the film The Seven Sisters (1915). He appeared in more than a hundred films, the last of which was Mara Maru (1952). He then left the United States, accompanied by his wife, actress Selena Royle, heading to Mexico, after she refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Renavent died in Guadalajara, Mexico, on January 2, 1969, at 76.
