He was a music hall performer before going to the...Read more United States with Chaplin, both members of Fred Karno's troupe in 1910. He was working for Chaplin's stock company and played supporting roles in many of his films. He then moved on to writing screenplays, directing and acting, especially in comedy short films. Some of his works include City Lights (1931), Keep Smiling (1925) and Suds (1920). He died on August 17, 1953 in North Hollywood, California.
