In spite of his thick Austrian accent, he made about 40 films after the coming of sound. Despite being already a veteran of the theater, he did not appear in films until middle age. Until the end of World War I, he appeared under the pseudonym G.Butler Clonblough. He continued his career in sound films and portrayed supporting roles in films such as Dishonored (1931) and Shanghai Express (1932). He appeared in 118 films between 1917 and 1939. He is known for She (1935), Sherlock Holmes (1922) and Son of Frankenstein (1939). He died on December 25, 1943 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
