A Canadian military man, born in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. He began his education at Queen Margaret's School in Duncan, then attended Duncan Grammar School and Duncan High School. He went to England in 1933 to pursue an army career. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Lincolnshire Regiment on 28 January 1937. He transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Lincolns, which was stationed in India, sailing there in September 1937. Hoey went to Burma with the 1st Battalion in 1942 and served there until his death. He was awarded the Military Cross in July 1943 for his distinguished service in Maungdaw in Myanmar during a raid on a Japanese position. He appeared as himself in Hearts and Minds (1974). He died on February 16, 1944, in Myanmar.
