An American actress and playwright, born in Brooklyn, New York City. She attended the High School of Music & Art in Manhattan. She is best known for her film roles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She participated in the La Mama Experimental Theatre Club in New York, where she directed and performed her own experimental plays. She won a Triple Obie Award for her work in Gloria.Speranza. She also taught acting at several colleges. In 1953, she founded the Tempo Playhouse, which won an Obie Award for Best Experimental Theatre.
