An American actor, born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on September 24, 1915. Larry Gates won an Emmy Award in 1985, and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1964. Among his most notable work: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958),...Read more and In the Heat of the Night (1967). Larry Gates studied chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota, and practiced acting at the university's theater. He appeared on Broadway in 1950. Larry Gates' film debut was in Glory Alley (1952), while his first appearance on television was in the series You Are There (1954). Larry Gates continued to work in cinema, theater and on television until the nineties, when he presented the series The Guiding Light. He died in Sharon, Connecticut, on December 12, 1996.
