He was educated in England, after which he left for the United States in 1917 and found his calling in silent films, such as Tarzan of the Apes (1918) and its sequel, The Romance of Tarzan (1918). His final appearance was in Hotel (1967). He's known for Booloo (1938) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on December 2, 1968.
