A British actor, born as Arthur John Stainer on January 18, 1910, in London, England. He came from an artistic family; his brother was director and actor Leslie Howard, his sister was casting director Irene Howard, and his uncle was director Wilfred Noy. Arthur married actress Jean Compton Mackenzie in 1936, and they had one son, actor Alan Howard. His credits include Whack-O!, Trail of the Pink Panther, and Moonraker. He died in Westminster, London, on June 18, 1995.
