An American opera singer and musician, born in Indiana and raised in Churchville, New York. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Patricia Misslin was her teacher at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Instead of accepting the saxophonist Illinois Jacquet's invitation to travel with his big band, she decided to pursue her graduate studies with voice coach John Maloy at Rochester, New York's Eastman School of Music.
