Syria is the guest of honor at the 28th Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean countries.

In solidarity with the revolution and democracy call made by the people of Syria; the organizing committee of the 28th Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean countries announced that Syria will be the guest of honor. Festival chairman Dr. Walid Seif said this edition of the festival will screen a number of Syrian documentaries that tell the daily stories of the revolution in Syria that expresses the perspective of the brave artists who declared their solidarity with the revolution and their resentment for the actions of the ruling regime. Dr. Seif added that choosing Syrian as a guest of honor was a position made by the city of Alexandria whose people proved that they are free and do not compromise on their dignity of revolution.The festival welcomes a large number of Syrian artists like Osama Mohamed, Nabil Al Maleh, Wahat Al Raheb, Haitham Hiqqy, writer Hakam El Bab, Asala, Yara Sabriy, Ziena Hallaq, Louise Abdel Hakim, Ahmed Malas, Mohamed Malas, Abdel Hakim Qtaifan and Abde Fahd. Also, a number of Syrian films will be screened like "23 minutes smuggled from Aleppo", "Syria at rock bottom" and other films about the massacres that took place in Hums, Hama, Adlib, Deir Ezoor and Dara.And including the "Cinema of Anger – Long Feature Films" program; three films will be screened :"Al Llayl Al Taweel" by Hatem Ali, "Nogoum Al Nahar – Stars of Daylight" by Osama Mohamed and "Ahlam Madina – City's Dreams" by Mohamed Malas. The film "Al Tagally AlAkheer" by Ghilan AlDimashqy will be screening for the first time in Egypt, it was written and directed by Haitham Heqqy and stars Kenda Alloush, Fares Heloo and Bassem Yakhour. The festival will be issuing a study entitled "Cinema of Anger in Syria" which expresses the features of the opposing Syrian cinema during the last year and the difficulties the revolutionist film makers faced. The festival will also honor Italian star Monica Bellucci and brothers directors Taviani.
