Sayyed Fathi, chairman of the Egyptian Chamber of Cinema Industry, has said in a statement that the announcement of the nation-wide curfew this past Wednesday has dealt a heavy blow to film revenues this Eid el Fitr season. They've had to cancel prime showtimes, specifically the 6:00 and 9:00 evening showtimes. He said the holiday season is essentially over, given the escalation of events and the curfew.

Fathi added that what's happening now in Egypt is not only causing huge losses for movie theaters, but also for the producers and production houses behind these films. He is sure, though, that we will all emerge from this crisis and "return to our former glory."

As for the numbers, Fathi said that the revenues that have come in put Mohamed Ramadan's " Qalb al Assad" solidly ahead of the pack with 12 million EGP, followed by " Kalby Dalily" with 2.5 million EGP, " Nazareyet Amity" with Hassan el Raddad and Horeya Farghaly with 1.5 million EGP and " Tom wa Jimmy" starring Hany Ramzy with 1 million EGP. Finally, Ola Ghanem's " El Brinseesa" has made 800 thousand pounds.
