Indian star Amitabh Bachchan has confirmed that he is close to signing to co-star in 'Shantaram', which will be produced by Warner Bros.

Johnny Depp is already on board to star in the film, and will also co-produce with Brad Pitt. The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by the Australian author Gregory David Roberts, about a drug addict who escapes prison and decides to take a trip to India and start a new life there, only to be interrupted by a call to join the armed forces in the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan.

Bachchan pointed out to Hindustan Times that he has received the script to the film few years ago, when it was planned to be directed by the Indian director Mira Nair, but after her withdrawal from the project negotiations stopped, and he added that Warner Bros. recently sent him the script again.

The 71 year-old Amitabh Bachchan made his first appearance in a Hollywood film in The Great Gatsby, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio last May.
