Several reports have revealed that James Franco will be playing Michael Glatze, an ex-gay activist in a new film produced by Gus Van Sant.

The film is inspired by a New York Times report, which reported that Glatze founded Young Gay America (or Y.G.A.) magazine and toured the country for a documentary about gay teens before he had a controversial change of heart, renounced his sexuality and became a fundamentalist Christian.

Franco is known to often depict gay characters, like his roles in Gus van Sant's “Milk” and “Howl.”
