HBO Max Unveils First Official Trailer for "Harry Potter" Series Ahead of Christmas 2026 Premiere

HBO Max has released the first official trailer for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, offering a glimpse into a newly imagined wizarding world and legendary characters within the halls of Hogwarts. The series is set to premiere globally on the platform on December 25, 2026, coinciding with Christmas Day. Based on J.K. Rowling’s world-famous novel series, the story follows young Harry Potter, who finds hope and escape from his miserable life upon enrolling at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, taking his first steps into the magical realm while uncovering the secrets of his childhood and wizarding heritage.

Helmed by director Mark Mylod, the series is written by a team led by Francesca Gardiner, Laura Neal, and Martha Hillier, working in close collaboration with author J.K. Rowling. The cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult ensemble includes John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley, and Warwick Davis, who returns to reprise his iconic film role as Professor Flitwick.

The casting search for the core trio saw massive interest, with the production team receiving over 32,000 audition tapes and reviewing between 500 and 1,000 entries daily before selecting the new leads. J.K. Rowling expressed her immense enthusiasm after reading the early scripts, praising their quality and confirming her close partnership with the writing room. Production saw a high-profile visit in September 2025 when Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton—along with their three children—visited the Hogsmeade station set at Windsor Great Park, where the royal family met lead actor Dominic McLaughlin and Prince Louis boarded the Hogwarts Express.
