A tragic event occurs to the family when Walid has a car accident, as Zahra, the mother, leaves the party in a rush, and Ahmed, the father, hurries to the hospital where they both point accusing fingers at each other.
A flashback reveals the family's life in Kuwait, as Mervat saves Walid from drowning; Zahra thanks Mervat and Abu Abdullah (Abdullah's father) visits the family to check on Walid. Mervat's husband dies as he falls off the roof of a building.
Zahra communicates to Mervat the news of her husband's death, and Mervat collapses and decides to return to Egypt, but Zahra convinces her not to.
When Mervat goes out late one night, Ahmed asks Zahra to take good care of her because she knows no one in Kuwait after her husband's death. Mervat decides to stay at her friend Samira's house.
Jealousy creeps into Samira's heart when she sees her husband's concern over Mervat, causing the two friends to quarrel and Mervat leaves Samira's.
A flashforward to the time of the accident, Walid's cousin, Mohammed, donates blood to the injured Walid to save his life. Flashback to the family's stay in Kuwait, Abu Abdullah suggests going to London with the grieving Mervat to help her move on, but Ahmed disapproves.
Following the children's success, Zahra decides to take them back to Cairo to join Egyptian schools and colleges, and she encourages her husband to stay in Kuwait now that he has become the general manager of the company.
Ahmed and Zahra's lawyer, who happens to be Zahra's cousin, suggests they buy a magnificent piece of land, which they do. Ahmed travels back to Kuwait where Mervat delightfully meets him at the airport.
When an argument develops between Mervat and Abu Talal (Talal's father) over Mervat's outfits, he threatens her, and when she informs Ahmed of the incident, he takes her side and transfers her to be under his supervision as a direct manager.
Abu Abdullah proposes to Mervat, but she rejects him. Feeling a burdensome sense of loneliness, Ahmed returns to Egypt for a short visit, and when he goes back to Kuwait, Mervat meets him and informs him of Abu Abdullah's proposal.
Ahmed and Mervat get closer as he takes her out for dinner and she opens up to him about her family and her past. Back in Egypt, Zahra is busy making preparations for the new villa.
Ahmed refuses to return to Egypt, claiming that his financial responsibilities urge him to stay in Kuwait and make more money. When a group of men catcall at Mai, her cousin Mohammed defends her, but he gets beat up for it.
Mohammed confesses his love for Mai. Ahmed proposes to Mervat, provided that they keep their marriage a secret.
Ahmed and Mervat return to Egypt where she stays with her family and he stays with his. Abu Abdullah offers to extend Ahmed's stay in Kuwait for six more months.
Zahra takes the children and returns to Kuwait for the mid-year vacation, which enrages Mervat as Ahmed spends more time with his family ignoring her. Abu Abdullah writes Ahmed a new contract to stay in Kuwait, and despite Zahra's disapproval, he signs the contract.
Ahmed stands his ground and signs the very generous contract. Mervat blames Ahmed for his long absence and avoidance, and he tries to make it up to her.
An enraged Abu Abdullah confronts Mervat with her relationship with Ahmed, and upon learning of their marriage, he reprimands Ahmed. Ahmed gets mad at Mervat, divorces her, and returns to Egypt.
Mervat rejects Abu Abdullah once more and returns to Egypt where she plans to reveal the truth about her marriage to Ahmed Al-Sheikh.
Mervat quarrels with Ahmed who has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. At the hospital, Zahra is shocked to see Mervat who informs her she and Ahmed had been married a year ago.
The love Zahra had for Ahmed turns into blind hatred as she refuses to talk to him and prevents her children from seeing him. Luck throws a little surprise down Zahra's way when she meets an old lover who happens to be her manager.
Zahra travels with Ra'fat to Paris on a business trip, and Ra'fat rejoices at the news of her divorce. Back in Egypt, Ahmed meets his children and takes them out to the movies.
Zahra returns from Paris and reprimands her children for going out with their father behind her back; her father tries to get her back to her senses by pinpointing that despite all disagreements, he is their father. Ahmed gets mad when he sees Ra'fat at Zahra's villa.
Mervat applies for a job at Ahmed's company, while Ahmed is lost in thought about Zahra's relationship with Ra'fat.
When the children hint at their disapproval of their mother's relationship with Ra'fat, she gets mad at them and tells them she is free to love and live again. An enraged Ahmed threatens to get Zahra out of the villa that he owns.
To get back at Zahra, Ahmed calls Mervat and they get back together. The current war between her father and her mother gets Mai in a melancholic state of mind.
Mai quarrels with her mother and she and Walid leave the villa and go to their father's apartment. Ahmed realizes that his son has gone down a wicked road as he started staying out late and smoking, and he blames the negligent mother for it.
When Mai and Walid leave the villa, Zahra goes to Paris on a business trip. Mai gets mad when she sees Mervat at her father's company.
Mad at her father, Mai and Walid leave his apartment and stay at their grandfather's.
A jealous Zahra accepts to marry Ra'fat when she learns of Ahmed's relationship with Mervat, but the rational Ra'fat tells her she's making a decision in the wake of her anger and jealousy, which will doom their relationship to failure.
When Walid's parents come to pick him up from school after the exams, he refuses to go home with either of them. Mervat's father objects to her marriage to Ahmed, saying it will only bring her more heartache.
Ahmed and Zahra approve of Mai's marriage to Mohammed. When the doctors inform the parents that Walid has gained consciousness, they walk hand in hand, leaving their lovers behind, and walking to a future of forgiveness and fresh chapters.
