Seven years after stepping down from service, former soldiers Hugh Collinson and John Porter reunite in an attempt to rescue a journalist kidnapped by a terrorist group outside Basra.
Porter finds the whereabouts of reporter Katie, but is captured by Saif al-Islam's leader, Hakim al-Nazri. He and Katie find themselves threatened with execution, prompting Collinson and the military intelligence team to undertake the mission to rescue them.
Porter is sent to Africa to protect a former British special forces soldier from being tried for attempting to assassinate the President of Zimbabwe, and devises a plan to get them out of the country.
Collinson travels to South Africa to confront the fugitive from Military Intelligence Section 20, but arrives too late, just as Colonel Tshuma launches a manhunt for Porter and Masuku.
Porter travels to Afghanistan to search for a computer hacker who has cracked the British Army's missile guidance codes. The hacker has devised a way to divert missiles and direct them to strike American forces instead of supporting them in fighting the Taliban.
Porter is exposed as a British Special Forces agent inside Pakistan, and realizes that his life is in danger. He has no choice but to convince Baxter to help him escape, and together they set off towards the meeting point in Afghanistan.
